The Highlights Of Vancouver!

Fri, September 16, 2016

I absolutely loved Vancouver! It was such a beautiful, enchanting city, it reminded me so much of home with the fantastic food, coffee, fitness, fun and  variety of things to do! Check out our highlights, everything from what we did to where we ate, including lots of healthy options for those of you wanting to stay on track whilst travelling!

Capilano Suspension Bridge

This is one of Vancouver’s most iconic destinations, so we couldn’t wait to check out the scenery! The suspension bridge hangs 70 metres over the Capilano River, giving you incredible views and an adrenalin rush as you watch the water sweep by underneath you from the treetops! We spent a couple of hours exploring the treetop walks which are all built to actually strengthen the trees with absolutely no damage! There is also an amazing cliff walk where the walkways is suspended from the cliffside, being afraid of heights I was a little apprehensive but it was worth the view. A beautiful way to spend your afternoon!

Granville Island

We had such a fantastic time at Granville Island, it was my favourite night of our time in Vancouver! Located downtown, it was a hub of fun shops, restaurants and live entertainment. We browsed the Markets which reminded me a lot of Melbourne’s Victoria Markets with lots of fresh produce, flowers, hand made chocolates, natural beauty products, good coffee and every kind of food imaginable! Afterwards we had dinner at a restaurant called Edible Canada, which is still the best meal I’ve had so far on the entire trip! I ordered the Farmer’s Plate with Salmon, the veggies were fresh and the fish is locally caught…my kind of food! After dinner we went to the Vancouver TheatreSports League to catch a live Improv show, it was so much fun! The actors were so talented and had us in stitches the whole time!

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is a must do, even if you are only in Vancouver for a short time! The park stretches over 1000 acres and houses the aquarium, restaurants, beaches and incredible views. We stopped in at one of the cafes and had a coffee to take in the scenery, no one seemed fazed when some raccoons decided to join in too! This is also where we filmed our “Abs In British Columbia” workout video with sensational views of the Vancouver city skyline, click here to take in the view and get a workout in too!

Gastown & The City

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of city I’ve seen anywhere! The cobblestone streets, streetlights, beautiful old buildings, flowers and fairy lights made this such a romantic and beautiful place to explore and somewhere I’d love to stay next time we visit! This is where we visited to eat for most of the trip, the restaurants are amazing, always buzzing and very busy so booking is a must! Another thing I love about Vancouver, community Pianos sitting in the street just waiting to be played! As a musician and former piano teacher, nothing captured my heart more!

Good Eats

Salt Tasting Room

This hidden gem was located in an alley way in Gastown, and it was such a great find! It had a great atmosphere, good service and the food was fresh and delicious! You can make up your own tasting plates from the variety of meats, cheeses and condiments they have, so you are always getting something you love! They also had great non alcoholic options on the menu too, we had a variety of these yummy alternatives and they were delicious!

Catch 122 Cafe

Brunch is the thing to do in Canada on weekends, and they know how to do it well! Catch 122 Cafe is located in Vancouver's Gastown, serving up casual, rustic, French-inspired breakfasts! I had the spinach and goats cheese omelette with roasted potatoes whilst Tim had a chorizo hash-style brekkie, bothe the food and the coffee were perfect for the rainy Sunday morning weather!

This is another great, healthy option when you are on the go and you don’t want to resort to greasy fast food! You can choose from healthy salads, soups and stews with lots of veggies, fish, chicken, wholegrains and healthy fats. These restaurants are easy and accessible, so they are a great grab and go option. We ate at the downtown location but I also noticed they have a store in Olympic Village.

Caveman Cafe

This was a FANTASTIC find after a long day of travelling! Open all day until 10 pm and located just on the outskirts of Gastown, they served amazing, healthy food, great portions and endless options! I ordered the salads and the wraps, and they filled my up and tasted incredible every time. You will be very pleased with the Caveman cafe if you want to stick to your healthy eating whilst away!
